Texture
1. What is Texture?
Texture is the feel of a surface. Texture can be smooth, rough, soft, wet, bumpy. fuzzy, etc. . .
Texture: Actual vs. Implied
Actual Texture
Texture of an actual tree when we touch it.
Implied Texture
Texture we think the tree has when we look at a picture of a tree (depicted texture) or
think of it as attempting to make your drawing have texture and look as close to a photograph as possible.
Texture may be used in a work of art to:
-
Make your artwork look more appealing
-
To create contrast within your project
-
To help visually balance your artwork throughout your piece
Remember - creating texture is easy, it's where and how you place them that makes the difference between a good painting and an ordinary one.
